The Waiting Is Over...

We took the classes.  We moved to another state.  We did the first aid training.  We even bought clothes in every size and drove approximately 13 hours to Ikea and back to furnish a room.

And then we waited.

And then we waited some more.

It really seemed like forever.  It ended up being a day shy of 4 months from the time we stepped foot into the first class to the time we got the first phone call.  We officially became foster parents two days ago.

Leonard and Penny came to our house Thursday evening.  They had been at a four hour respite house for a few hours prior to that.  We don't know how long they'll be with us, but so far so good.  Just a couple of meltdowns over the course of two very active days.  Not too bad for a 2 year old and his almost 4 year old sister.

The last two days have been spent hanging out with us, my daughter, our niece, and attending a 2 year old's birthday party with a bunch of people they've never met.  The Kid has been great with the little ones.  She's about to be 9, but she handles those kids like a seasoned professional.  She goes back to her mom's house tomorrow evening, so after about 6 o'clock, we'll be on our own to manage the situation.
